American Water recently raised $180,000 to support Water For People, an international nonprofit organization dedicated to providing access to improved water and sanitation systems and services in developing countries.
“We are proud of our partnership with Water For People and their tremendous work in securing quality water and health resources for those who urgently need it,” said Cheryl Norton, executive vice president and chief operating officer, and executive sponsor for this year’s campaign. “The amazing support from our generous employees highlights our commitment to providing essential water and wastewater services to the local communities we serve and throughout the world.”
A key contributor to this year’s Water For People campaign was the American Water Charitable Foundation, which donated $50,000 towards the company’s annual campaign. Additional contributions came from employees across the country through donations and fundraising events that help advance the non-profit organization’s mission of promoting the development of high-quality drinking water and sanitation services, sustained by strong communities, businesses and governments.
American Water’s support of Water For People is part of our environmental, social and governance (ESG) commitment through active community engagement as well as civil and charitable involvement. For more than a decade, American Water and its employees have supported Water For People, donating more than $3 million to its life-changing work.
In addition to the fundraising campaign, Tennessee American Water Executive Assistant Kathryn Robinson and New Jersey American Water’s Jerry Kodopidis, Health & Safety Specialist, were both recognized with the Kenneth J. Miller Founders’ Award from Water For People. Established in 2001, the award honors outstanding volunteers for their service and leadership in the advancement of Water For People’s mission.
